We discussed cognitive reading strategies this morning. Strategies we are working on include making connections, making predictions, asking questions, visualizing, monitoring and clarifying, summarizing and synthesizing, and analyzing author's craft. As a class, we loved the analogy of Via comparing her family to the solar system. We are recognizing word choice, and figurative language during our read aloud of Wonder.
*If students would like more time to work on their first reader response, they were invited to bring it home. There will be morning class time to work on this as well. (15-20 minutes).
WE DAY:
We Day is a local initiative that provides a forum for students in Southern Alberta. As a system, each school is allocated a set number of tickets for students in grades 4-12. At Prince of Wales we have decided to provide this opportunity to our Grade 6 students only. Prince of Wales was provided 16 tickets (we have 35 grade 6 students). Students who wanted to attend We Day wrote a persuasive letter. We worked a as team to select the 16 students, based on their letter and how they have demonstrated character and leadership, who would attend as ambassadors for Prince of Wales School. Field trip forms will be coming home today with students who will be attending We Day.
Please return We Day Forms no later than Monday!
Thank you!
