*We continued our aerial adventure of Canada and learned about the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. We drew conclusions and compared the Atlantic Region to the Canadian Shield region. Ask us about these provinces and the regions they belong to! We viewed and discussed "La Carnivale", the Chateau Frontenac, the Plains of Abraham, the CN Tower, Parliament Hill, the shipwrecks, ice sailing, waterfalls (NIagara Falls), among others!

*This week is already flying by! A thank you to the kids for being well-mannered and responsible for Ms.Betcher and Mrs.Smith yesterday!
*We continued to work on our News Report with Mrs.Smith. We began looking at an aerial overview of Canada and studying the physical features, recreation, and industries of the regions. Our self-portraits are coming along! We will soon "Picasso-ize" them! Reminders: *Tomorrow is Walking Wednesday *Fun Lunch tomorrow (Extreme Pita) *No School Friday (PD day) *We had a wonderful, calm morning. Mrs.Smith continued to teach us about News Reports. We completed our Hockey Unit! It was great to apply our skills and play some games! We continued reading "Wonder" and discussed peer reactions and how our characters responded differently to a similar situation. Our Sensory Imagery Writing based on our Glenbow Field Trip is incredible! We worked on writing this in published form. Wait until you read them!

We are off to the GLENBOW MUSEUM tomorrow! Please ensure your child is on time and has a healthy, substantial lunch with them! (Reminder - students are not able to heat up food and there is no cutlery on site). Please refer back to the field trip itinerary to ensure your child is prepared. We went over class expectations in class today. We're looking forward to a fabulous day! A big thanks again to our parent volunteers traveling with us tomorrow! *GRADE 5 WEATHER MID-UNIT TEST is on Wednesday! Grade 5's! Remember to bring your Science doutang home to study! *CANSTRUCTION CLUB Canstruction Club just began this week with the grade 5 and 6’s who signed up! We will be designing and creating a structure out of non-perishable food items as part of a contest in partner with the Mayor’s 28th Annual Christmas Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank. The project is called Canstruction Jr. We are asking for donations to help us build our structure and are specifically looking for green items such as cans and boxes that are green in colour. A variety of sizes would be great. Thanks in advance for your support with this! We look forward to showing your our finished product. Please contact Mrs.Blanchard or Mrs.Hammond with with questions. Mrs.W. returned our Democracy paragraphs and our marks. We also discussed the rubric for paragraph writing and how we can improve in our writing. Using the rubric and our teacher's feedback, we reflected on what we are doing well in our writing and what we can improve on. Writing is a progress and we are better aware of our next steps.
*In gym, we continue to develop our hockey skills! We combined our stick handling and passing skills into some fun relays today! *Mrs.Smith taught us about the characteristics of a news report versus other genre of writing. We analyzed news article today and learned about headlines, bylines, placelines, the lead and quotations. Tomorrow we will focus our learning around headlines! *Austen's Butterfly: We had an important discussion about learning as a process, the importance of self/teacher/peer reflection and perseverance using the video Austen's butterfly. Reminders: *Field Trip forms due tomorrow *Overdue homework: Turn On the Heat: Reading articles were due today. Some students did not finish and need to complete these at home. (Questions 1- 9). *Parent Volunteer forms for the Field Trip were sent to our volunteers. Please try to return on or before Tuesday! Thank you! *We introduced News Reports as a genre for reading/writing. Students are working to identify the characteristics of a news report that are different than other genre.
*Mrs. Purkiss presented to our class about the importance of muscle memory (body language when listening to a presenter), the importance of being in the present and the most important people being those around you, and choosing to do the right thing using the book, "The Three Questions." This helped us think about how we can best work together as a classroom community. We discussed thought bubbles and speaking bubbles and the best time to use each of these. *Art: We started working on learning how to create self-portraits. We will be working towards creating portraits of ourselves and portraying our personality through our portraits. *Today was Power Hour! Ask us about it! Reminders: *Turn the Heat Down comprehension questions due Wednesday. *Glenbow Field Trip forms due Thursday. *We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. *We worked on developing our reading strategies for locating and finding information in non-fiction text using an article on global warming and the carbon tax. The comprehension questions are due Wednesday. There will be some time for this tomorrow morning. *Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom: We finished our discussion using the scenarios to understanding which of our rights are protected. Journal Reflection sheet is due TOMORROW. *Field Trip forms for the Glenbow Museum are coming home today. Please ensure you mark in your calendars that our class will be traveling to the Glenbow on Tuesday, November 22. Please return field trip forms by THURSDAY. Thank you! *Our Grade 3s and 4s put on a wonderful Remembrance Day Assembly today. It was wonderful to see so many in attendance.

We have been working on writing proper paragraphs including topic sentences, supporting sentences and concluding sentences. Students have a checklist to use to ensure they meet task expectations. We will have approximately 1/2 an hour class time for the above assignments. If more time is needed, please ensure these assignments are brought home to work on. Thank you. They are really really in need of these items.
