We read "The Elders are Watching" this morning in relation to our study of First Nations. We discussed the message and the perspective in the story. We also made connections to some of our prior experiences and knowledge, such as the story about the Peace Tree. The Grade 5's continue to build on their understanding of the First Nations cultural groups across Canada before contact with the Europeans. The Grade 6s are working on developing a understanding of the decision making process in the Iroquois Confederacy. We are analyzing the three different cultures/societies (Iroquois, Ancient Athens, and present time) and drawing conclusions about democracy. *Poetry We are discussing what poetry is, what it means to us and how to distinguish poetry from other forms. *Grade 6 pictures are due to office tomorrow as per this weeks blogs. *Remember, next Tuesday is Bike to School Day! |
