*Reading hoemwork due tomorrow
This morning we worked on finishing our comprehension questions for our article on Immigration. Please complete the "quiz" and questions #1-9 for tomorrow. We read the next (really sad!) chapters of "Wonder." We used these chapters to discuss show don't tell. It looks like we are a pretty experienced group when using "show don't tell" as a technique to improve the quality of our writing. We had a lot of ideas how to show how the character was feeling as opposed to telling. We will continue to work on this tomorrow. Our Grade 5s are taking a more in depth look at the physical regions through a mini-research project. Our Grade 6's are taking a more in depth look at our Local Government.

We practiced our reading comprehension skills through a shared and independent reading of Immigration in Canada. We are working on locating information and inferencing skills. We have time to work on this tomorrow morning, as well. Ask us what we learned about immigration - the advantages, disadvantages, etc.. We will be spending this week in gym on games. Our GYMNASTICS unit will begin next week. In Social Studies today, we discussed more in depth the three levels of government: municipal, provincial and federal. We watched a video to help us understand which responsibilities belong to each government.
Power Hour: Students filled out their Power Hour sheets with Ms.Hammond yesterday. Your child should check in with you about their choices. If there are any issues, please make sure your child talks to their teacher before Friday. Thank you! Vaccinations are being rescheduled. There are no vaccinations for Grade 5s tomorrow. Happy New Year! It was wonderful to hear the stories that Winter Holidays held for us! We eased into our day with a circle sharing our excitement. We then watched the 2016 Year in Review, from which we recognized several "stories" that captured our attention in 2016. We read a few chapters in Wonder and discussed bullying and being a bystander. Our narrator in the story has switched back to August, now! We reviewed the Canadian physical regions by reading clues about each regions and matching it to it's picture counterpart.
Reminders: We went over Power Hour Courses for our upcoming session. Power Hour forms are coming home today. Please fill out and return no later than Friday. Thank you! |
